Thermotech rate compensation heat detectors
Thermotech builds rate compensation heat detectors, a mechanical detector type used where smoke detection is not workable. A rate compensated detector is designed to alarm at its rated temperature regardless of how fast the air heats up, which avoids the lag a plain fixed-temperature element shows in a fast fire and the nuisance alarms a rate-of-rise device can produce in a space with normal temperature swings.
This is industrial and harsh-environment inventory. It suits boiler rooms, mechanical spaces, kitchens, parking structures, loading docks, attics and crawl spaces, unconditioned warehouses, and outdoor or hazardous locations where dust, humidity, fumes, temperature swings or washdown would make a smoke detector unreliable or non-compliant.
The 302 series here is offered in several temperature ratings and several mounting configurations: interior vertical surface mount, all-weather vertical mount, all-weather vertical box mount with threaded conduit entry, and explosion-proof mounting for classified hazardous locations.
Choose by answering three questions in order. What is the maximum normal ambient temperature in the space, since the detector rating has to sit safely above it? Is the location interior, exposed to weather, or a classified hazardous location? And how does it mount and land its conduit? Note that explosion-proof versions require a separate listed enclosure. Temperature ratings, listings and mounting details are stated on each product page.
