Smoke and heat detector bases

The base is the part that stays on the ceiling. It carries the wiring, holds the head and, in several versions, adds a function the head does not have on its own. This line covers standard mounting bases in four inch flangeless and six inch flanged versions in white and ivory, low profile bases, relay bases in two-wire and four-wire versions, bases with a current limiting resistor, isolator bases, addressable sounder bases including low frequency versions, wireless detector and audio-visual bases, and a 120 volt four-wire base. Several are sold in bulk packs for large installations.

Bases are ordered in two situations: a new installation where the bases go up during rough-in and the heads go in at the end to keep them out of the drywall dust, and a retrofit where the head is being replaced and the existing base either does not fit the new head or needs a function added.

Choose by matching the detector head series first, since a base and a head from different families will not seat correctly. Then confirm the diameter and whether a flange is needed to cover the existing ceiling opening, which is what decides most retrofits. Finally decide the function: a plain base, a relay for auxiliary control, an isolator to protect the loop, or a sounder base for local audible signaling. Compatible head lists are on each product page.
