Fire Sentry flame detectors
Flame detectors are optical devices. Rather than waiting for smoke or heat to travel to a ceiling-mounted sensor, they watch a volume of space and respond to the radiation a flame emits, which makes them the fastest detection method available for fires that develop quickly and release little smoke early on.
This section covers Fire Sentry FSL100 UV/IR flame detectors and their mounting accessories, including swivel mounts. The UV/IR sensing combination looks at both ultraviolet and infrared radiation and requires signals in both bands before alarming, which suppresses false alarms from sunlight, arc welding, hot surfaces and artificial lighting that can trip a single-band detector.
These are specified for hazardous and high-value industrial areas: fuel handling and dispensing, solvent and paint operations, gas turbine and compressor enclosures, aircraft hangars, munitions handling, chemical process areas, and sites where a suppression release has to be triggered in seconds.
Specifying a flame detector is a line-of-sight exercise. Establish the hazard's location and size, the detector's field of view, and the mounting positions that put the hazard inside that cone with no obstruction. Then confirm the area classification and the approvals required for it, the output type the fire alarm or process safety system expects, and whether the environment demands a heated window or protective housing. Detection range, field of view and approvals are on each product page.
