VESDA aspirating smoke detection

VESDA is air-sampling smoke detection. Instead of waiting for smoke to reach a spot detector on the ceiling, a network of sampling pipes continuously draws air back to a central detector that reads it. That gives very early warning, and it makes detection practical in spaces where conventional spot detectors struggle: high-ceiling atriums and warehouses, cold storage, data centers and telecom rooms, clean rooms, dusty industrial areas, air handling plenums, elevator shafts and historic buildings where visible devices are unwelcome.

The catalog covers VESDA-E VEU and VES scanner units with LED or LCD display options, VLF LaserFOCUS units for smaller protected areas, VLI industrial units with relays and network cards for harsh environments, display and relay modules, network interface cards, programmers and sampling pipe accessories.

Choosing a unit starts with the protected area and the pipe network, not with the detector. Work out the coverage area, the pipe run lengths and the number of sampling holes first, because those determine airflow and which detector class is appropriate. Then decide how many independently addressed zones the job needs, which is what separates a scanner unit from a single-zone unit. After that, settle the environment, the display and interface requirements, and how the unit reports to the fire alarm panel. Sensitivity ranges, zone counts and listing details are on each product page.
