Fire alarm modules, relays and interface devices

Modules are how a fire alarm panel reaches everything that is not a detector. Modules show up in every commercial job: monitoring a sprinkler waterflow or tamper switch, releasing a door holder, shutting down an air handler, driving a non-addressable notification circuit, or isolating a section of loop so a single short does not take down the whole thing.

Choose by protocol before anything else, since an addressable module only works on the loop protocol its panel speaks. Then confirm the circuit class the module supports, the number of inputs or outputs, the contact form and rating on relay modules, and whether a barrier is required to keep power limited and non power limited wiring separated in the box.
