STI-8100-BK Smoke Detector Cover Polycarbonate Black

The STI STI-8100-BK is a black polycarbonate Smoke Detector Damage Stopper for flush-mounted smoke detectors, supplied with standard mounting hardware. It is made for areas prone to vandalism or abuse, where damaged detectors lead to false alarms and high maintenance costs.

The cover comes off for detector service by loosening the four screws, rotating it counterclockwise and lifting it away.

Installation notes

Do not paint the cover, as paint can block smoke from reaching the detector. With Siemens detectors, sensitivity adjustment is mandatory (see the Siemens install sheet). Install, test and maintain per NFPA 72, and verify the detector model against the STI listing. For drop ceilings, beams or other unstable surfaces, the optional STI-8171 backplate adds 0.25 in. (6.3 mm). For surface-mount detectors or conduit, add the STI-8101 2" spacer or order the STI-8130. Tamper-resistant screws are optional: KIT-81 with the KIT-19038 bit. STI notes a California Proposition 65 warning for Dichloromethane and Bisphenol A (BPA).

Ordering note

Same cover in clear (STI-8100) and white (STI-8100-W). STI-8130 = clear cover plus STI-8101 spacer. Steel equivalents: STI-8200-SS/STI-8230-SS (304 stainless) and STI-8200-W/STI-8230-W (coated cold-rolled steel).
